The Fleurieu Peninsula and the
McLaren Vale/Willunga area in
particular has a rich fine art
tradition going back generations.
This is celebrated in the Fleurieu
Bienniale (Fleurieu Art Prize)
offering Australia’s richest prize
for landscape, attracting renowned
artists throughout Australia and
internationally. Jen Wright studied
at the Adelaide Central School of
Art and found her love of drawing
and painting reinvigorated in this
environment. She produces much
admired charcoal sketches and
portraits and has captured typical
local scenes in oils celebrating life
in the vineyards and at the beach.
Her most distinctive works are a
series of bird paintings where she
experiments with colouring from
squid ink, beetroot, walnut and
of course wine along with other
natural and found materials. As
artist-in-residence, there is always
some of Jen’s work on display but
the gallery also mounts exhibitions
with other artists several times
a year, especially for the SALA
(South Australian Living Artists)
and Adelaide Fringe festivals.
